The 55th Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association Summer Sale will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 23, starting at 1 p.m., one hour earlier than in recent years.

WINNIPEG -- Assiniboia Downs jockey Jorge Carreno is what one might call, “self-aware.” As a veteran of more than 20 years on the back of a racing thoroughbred, Carreno knows there is a lot more to winning horse races than confidence or dumb luck.

"This day didn't seem very possible the first year I was training, because I was wondering if I was going to get enough horses to be doing this job."

The catalog for the 2022 Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association Summer Yearling and Mixed Sale is now online, featuring 104 entries.

After years of slowdowns caused by the pandemic, live racing is back at Emerald Downs in Auburn.

After two years, the state's largest horse racetrack, Emerald Downs, welcomed fans back on Sunday afternoon with no COVID-19 restrictions.

“I’m excited to learn about all the horses and horsemen participating in horse racing at Emerald Downs,” Downes said.
