The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Saturday asked countries to enhance surveillance for monkeypox and isolate confirmed patients, saying it expected cases to rise.

"Copy and paste" conspiracies that spread during the pandemic are being pushed for monkeypox.

Countries should take quick steps to contain the spread of monkeypox and share data about their vaccine stockpiles, the World Health Organisation says.

So far, there are about 300 confirmed or suspected cases in around 20 countries where the virus was not previously circulating.

A Northern Virginia woman is isolating at home with a presumed case of the virus. Health experts said there is no reason to panic.
