African countries face high risk of COVID-19 resurgence - World

African countries face high risk of COVID-19 resurgence Format 29 Apr 2021 Brazzaville, 29 April 2021 – The risk of COVID-19 resurgence remains high in several African countries due to poor adherence to public health measures, mass gatherings, low testing and vaccination rates, an analysis by the World Health Organization (WHO) has shown. Three countries face very high risk of COVID-19 resurgence, 20 face high, 22 moderate risk, and only one country faces low risk, according to the risk assessment of 46 countries. The risk was estimated using seven indicators with data from the past four weeks, including COVID-19 cases per million people; the percentage of change in new cases; the percentage of change in new deaths; the reproductive number (the rate at which an infection spreads); the pandemic trend; the average weekly number of tests per 10 000 people; and the percentage of the population that has received at least one vaccine dose.

Leaders in Trade: The winners | Global Trade Review (GTR)

Judging is based on submissions sent to GTR that outline institutions’ greatest achievements throughout the course of 2020 as related to these specific categories . Congratulations to the winners! Given that, disappointingly, just two submissions across the entire global market were received for this category, the GTR editorial team decided not to award any winners. In some cases, where entries overlap with Best Deals signed in 2020, the GTR team also draws on those transactions.     Bank: Bank of America With a solid performance that went beyond the ‘E’ in ESG to tackle societal and governance issues too, Bank of America was a standout choice in the sustainability category.

COVID-19 cases in Africa to top 4 million, vaccine rollout underway - World

COVID-19 cases in Africa to top 4 million, vaccine rollout underway Format Brazzaville, 11 March 2021 – Africa is poised to surpass 4 million COVID-19 infections this week since the continent’s first confirmed case in February 2020. The year-long battle against the virus, which has also claimed over 106 000 lives, is now receiving a crucial boost with the arrival of vaccines through the COVAX Facility – a multi-partner vaccine procurement platform. Following a second wave which peaked at much higher numbers than Africa’s first surge, new case numbers declined for five weeks, and then plateaued during the past three weeks at around 70 000 cases per week. In the last week, there has been a slight uptick in new cases and an upward trend in 12 countries, including in Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia and Cameroon.
