Linturi was arrested over fraud, forgery allegations, Matiangi tells senators

THE STANDARD NATIONAL Meru Senator Mithika Linturi is accused of fraud. [File, Standard] Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i on Friday, May 7 told the Senate Committee on National Security that Meru Senator Mithika Linturi was arrested on April 28 over fraud, forgery and personation allegations. The minister claimed the said-offences were committed between June and November 2018. Matiang’i appeared before the lawmakers to explain the brief detention of Linturi on April 28, when the Senate was debating on the Constitution of Kenya Amendment Bill (2020). On the said-date, the House adjourned twice demanding Linturi’s release. It was Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot who alerted other legislators that their Meru colleague was not in the chambers after being apprehended.

Meru Senator Linturi to face fraud charges

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi. FILE PHOTO Meru Senator Mithika Linturi faces up to 37 fraud-related criminal charges, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has confirmed. The politician is set to be charged alongside one Emily Nkirote Buantai after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) finished working on their files. Matiang’i, in a statement, said the ODPP returned the file to the Office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on February 9, 2021, with consent to prosecute the suspects. The charges include; Conspiracy to defraud Contrary to Section 317 of the Penal Code – 3 Counts. Forgery Contrary to Section 345 as read with Section 349 of the Penal Code 19 Counts

Linturi fails to stop his arrest in Sh530 million forgery claim Tuesday March 16 2021 By SAM KIPLAGAT Summary Justice Weldon Korir declined to offer the Meru senator an anticipatory bail and instead offered to hear from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the police ahead of court action. Mr Linturi and Emily Nkirote Buantai went to court seeking protection saying there are plans to arrest them yet the matter is being handled through civil cases pending before various courts. The High Court has declined to stop the arrest of Meru Senator Mithika Linturi over claims that he used forged signatures to secure a Sh530 million bank loan with properties of his estranged wife as collateral.

Mithika Linturi faces arrest over Sh530m bank forgery claim Monday March 08 2021 By SAM KIPLAGAT Summary Marianne Kitany, the estranged wife of Meru Senator, has accused Mr Linturi of forging signatures to secure the multimillion-shilling loan from Family Bank. Linturi says he was alerted of his planned arrest by one of his staff after some documents were dropped at his office, among them a draft charge sheet containing 38 counts. At the centre of the commercial and forgery dispute is Atticon Limited, a firm that Mr Linturi fully owned before ceding 50 percent shares to Baron Estates Ltd, which is associated with the estranged wife.
