Published April 23, 2021, 2:14 PM Students from the College of Engineering and Technology of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) won the top prize in a national competition after completing a project that would greatly help in disinfection – which is crucial amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Collectively called “Team Heisenberg,” the winning group composed of Electronics Engineering students Argen Mary Arceño, Rollison Joshua Tabuyan, Ronn Joaquin Cuenco, Mave Rick Credo, and Michael Buenviaje won in the Maxim Integrated Philippines’ Design Innovation Contest. PLM Engineering students bag top prize in national competition The students were given the “Spotlight Award” and emerged as champions for their proposal – which is a voice-controlled ultraviolet sterilization robot for disinfection.

PLM lauds inclusion of education frontliners in vaccine priority list

(ALI VICOY / MANILA BULLETIN) On Friday, April 16, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases approved the vaccine priority group A4, which includes basic education and higher education institutions and agencies personnel.  Other key economic and societal agents such as market vendors, retail sales personnel, security guards, and delivery workers are also part of this cluster. “The Pamantasan welcomes this move of the IATF as it gives an extra layer of protection for our very own frontliners, especially those who are vital to sustaining the day-to-day of PLM under the new normal,” PLM President Emmanuel Leyco said in a statement Friday night, April 17.

PLM classes to remain on asynchronous mode until April 30

Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (plm.edu.ph) On Sunday, April 11, President Duterte placed Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal under the less restrictive MECQ from April 12 to April 30. Asynchronous learning is a learning that does not require real-time interaction. It can be done through offline videos, materials, and educational resources provided beforehand by the teachers or professors. PLM President Emmanuel Leyco said faculty members can only carry out classes in the undergraduate level through modules and recorded audio or video lectures until April 30. Meanwhile, the Colleges of Law and Medicine are given the option to hold synchronous classes not exceeding 50 percent of the total number of meetings scheduled during the week.
