Encampment Resolution Program News Today

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) cleared three homeless encampments between 45th Street and 50th Street near I-5 in late February as part of the Washington state-funded Encampment Resolution

The building will serve people experiencing homelessness as part of a state program.

The parties are working to find solutions for those remaining at the encampment.

Housing and wrap-around services were secured at Maple Court Enhanced Shelter in Lacey for the eight (8) remaining individuals located on the Department of Enterprise Services (DES)-owned property near Department of Ecology’s Lacey headquarters on Desmond Drive. Currently, three (3) individuals have transitioned to Maple Court and three (3) individuals are in the process of transitioning.

Before installing the boulders, Washington state officials said they focused on sheltering homeless people who were previously camped along highways.

Boulders placed on the shoulder of I-5 in Olympia send an undeniable message: the homeless are not welcome here.

An additional $20,000 will be spent on upcoming projects.

We still see tents along the sides of our freeways, but the state has made progress in clearing some of the most dangerous camps.
