The Democratic Alliance (DA) on Wednesday wants all political parties in Parliament to support its End Cadre Deployment Bill, which aims to ensure that public service appointments are based strictly on merit. The party officially presented the Bill – formally known as the Public Administration Laws General Amendment Bill – to Parliament’s Public Service and Administration Portfolio Committee and says it looks forward to the upcoming parliamentary vote on the Bill.
The DA has officially tabled our End Cadre Deployment Bill with the Speaker’s Office in Parliament. The Bill will now be referred to the relevant portfolio committee for consideration and public consultation, whereafter Members of Parliament will have the historic opportunity to vote to replace cadre deployment with professional public service appointments. The need for this Bill has never been more urgent in the wake of the evidence revealed at yesterday’s Zondo Commission sitting that the .
The DA hopes the Zondo Commission, in its findings, will confirm the party’s view ’’cadre deployment is an unconstitutional abuse of power that provides the very foundation for state capture and corruption’’.
