Dennis Denora, a Sun.Star reporter and publisher of the Trends and Times community paper, has been shot dead by unidentified killers, according to the Davao chapter of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines. IFJ condemns killing of journalist in Yemen

Media practitioners, analysts and observers have described 2021 as a year of assault on press freedom and impunity against journalists. Unlike previous years, Nigeria, in 2021, ranked 120 out of 180 countries in World Press Freedom Index compiled by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

With 488 journalists detained, 46 killed and 65 held hostage, the 2021 press freedom index makes for grim reading, writes Dina Matar.
