no on that bill so it s just not going to happen? i think it still could. and of course, they re trying to do this before mccarthy has a speaker fight, has the opportunity potentially to become house speaker and before republicans take over the majority. they re able to do that we saw senator susan collins today say we need to enact this g get this in place before the end of the year, before the 2024 pl presidential cycle starts to heat up. if they do that, i think it has a chance of passing and trying to get this into the year end spending bill will be difficult. we re not sure it will pass. i think right now we saw mitch mcconnell today say that if they cannot get an ominous bill done by the end of the year, by december 22nd, they re going to go home senators and they ll have to do a long-term short or longer term continuing resolution, which is a short term funding bill and so it s really going to depend on whether they can fit this in and get a long-term spending bill
spending has caused 40 year high inflation but you and your colleagues once again are talking about a year end spending bill. democrats topght spend even more money putting inflation elevated. is that going to go through? what are you expecting in terms of the year end spending bill? we are beginning to hear this conversations around a longer term cr continuing resolution that would also include funding for the ndaa and also for ukraine. so we will see what we find out tomorrow. there is also some scuttle butt out there that senator leahy is going file his own omnibus spending bill about 25 billion above what president biden had wanted. so we will see where this is going to end up. i have a feeling it could be a
given responsibility for the mueller investigation to somebody who s not been confirm bide the senate and someone who s expressed hostility to the mueller investigation. how in the world my colleagues don t see this as priority now i just don t understand. it needs to come to the senate floor and is worth using a little leverage here. you re pushing hard for a vote on the mueller protection bill. democrats, chuck schumer in the senate, jerry nadler in the house, says the best way to get a vote is to attach to the year end spending bill, which could force decision makers to make a choice between allowing a vote or shutting down the government. are you in favor of that plan? will you vote against the spending bill if it does not include protections for mueller? i would sure like to see it as part of the spending plan, because that will make it law. i hope that they will continue to push for that. the first step has to be having this bill that has already passed the judiciary committe
reporter: but the victory lap on taxes has not resolved other matters. mainly the russia investigation. tonight a new cnn poll shows that americans believe the russia probe is a serious matter. while 34% say it s an effort to discredit trump s presidency. while mr. trump has repeatedly dismissed the investigation let s put it this way, there is absolutely no collusion. reporter: the poll finds 56% of americans disapprove of how he s handling while 32% approve. as some republicans ramp up their criticism of robert mueller, the poll shows a majority of americans don t agree. 47% say they approve of mueller s handling of the investigation. while 34% disapprove. as congress scrambles to finish it s year end spending bill to keep the government open well wait a minute, wait a minute news break, the republicans control the congress. reporter: at the united nations, the president receiving a stinging rebuke today. an overwhelming majority of the world s nations condemning the
