that we re hearing pushback from various members of congress, because we need a legal immigration system because in their state it significantly impacts their economy, specifically states they rely on agriculture. they need some of that labor that comes here. that is a bigger factor. obamacare as well as immigration are important. when we have a senate as well as a white house, there is no reason we can t get this done. we have a lot of great proposals on the table. to me the best option is ending visa lottery, ending chain migration, having a more meas e merit-based system. there is overwhelming support for protections for dreamers. we need to include that. and in return, let s put some money behind the wall that mostly the president wants and find some way to compromise on all of these, and let s fix this
certain elements of it like the wall and limiting legal immigration but why can t you get your own house in order and republicans pass the bill? i am the eternal optimist and i do think there are 2018 republicans that agree with the four pillars of border security. ending chain migration, visa lottery and fixing the daca. chris: some of the hard-line conservatives called the amnesty and will vote against the. it s merit-based. chris: i m talking about daca. it s based on merit and not amnesty. - - is a very conservative freedom caucus guy actually drafted that provision that charles - - on the left came to an agreement with. chris: i want to go to
i disagree with the president on that point. can i ask about that really quick? can i ask about the ted cruz proposal? it kind of fixes you can t separate families and in doing so would double the number of federal immigration judges to speed up processing. trump says he wants congress to fix it, but he just threw ted cruz s proposal down the stairs yesterday. let me play this for you. they should like to hire 5,000 or 6,000 more judges. 5 or 6,000. can you imagine the graph that must take place? you re small business owners so i know you can t imagine a think like that. if he wants something done why did he throw out the cruz proposal? the president s trying to accomplish what he ran on in 2016 which is come up to the big, broad, comprehensive reform and he has very specific principles and he talked about building the wall and ending chain migration and getting rid
on? well, i think what he s going to have to talk through with blicans and reassure them of what s needed, we still have the it serring crisis at the border with families and children coming across illegally and these bills would deal with that and the democrats have been complaining about that, you know, for the last couple of weeks, you know, if they sign onto one of the bills, they can fix that. i hope the president is going the make clear that this is not the time to be throwing in all of these strenuous provisions for guest workers, stick to the four pillars that they all agreed on a few weeks ago, ending chain migration, border wall, enforcement, limited solution for the people with daca. and that s what would get them in finish line. heather: why would ryan be throwing that, guest workers, why do that as this late date? well, you know, he s a lame
i ve been working for the president of the united states and the administration, i talked to him just yesterday, the president is fully committed to both of these bills. he has put the full weight of his office behind it. the mccall, goodlatte bill, they both i would say provide the four pillars that i discussed with the president at that sort of famous round table discussion. most importantly from my perspective, it s got border security in there. it s got funding for the wall the president really wants. it s got the technology and boots on the ground. and the four pillars being ending chain migration, ending this random visa lottery system, providing border security, and a daca solution. so i think obviously i d like to see mccall, goodlatte pass on the floor and we wouldn t have to get to a second bill. but if it gets to that point, i do think this is a historic opportunity to advance conservative agenda that we ve
