The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced Monday that it has installed 30 newly designed trash bins in high-traffic areas, such as near City Hall and Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), to make waste disposal easier for people.

To mark Earth Day, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the citys Green Citizen Committee are hosting a commemorative event at Gwanghwamun Square on Saturday.

A lack of trash cans in Seoul has led to more litter piling up on the streets as well as a surge in complaints.

Plastic cups and containers will be banned from parks along the Han River in 2025, in an effort by Seoul City to reduce single-use plastics. The Seoul metropolitan government plans to expand the size of forested areas in the sprawling capital by 2025. The latest project is the city governments second bid to make the air in the metropolis cooler and cleaner by expanding forested areas. The first phase of the project was completed in 2021.
