Issues of money, career prospects and a lack of staff are leading the rangers integrated in the GNR to hold a national strike and form a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Internal Administration.
According to the National Federation of Trade Unions of Public and Social Service Workers, the forest rangers are demanding an increase in salaries, the granting of supplements for police duties, an increase in the compensation percentages for work done on public holidays, an increase in the number of personnel and the opening of career promotion competitions.
African Spurred Tortoise rescued
The Territorial Command of Castelo Branco, through the Environmental Protection Centre (NPA) of Castelo Branco, yesterday, on 18 May, rescued an African Spurred Tortoise, Centrochelys sulcata, in the municipality of Castelo Branco.
During their patrol, NPA were alerted to an animal that was on the side of the road, in the locality of Palvarinho. Following the action, the NPA moved to the site and rescued the animal, which appeared to be well fed and without injuries. After police due diligence, the owners were identified, and a report was drawn up for lack of CITES certificate and because the animal was not marked.

The European Commission has published a new report on the situation of the Iberian wolf, which will be presented to the European Parliament in March.

At issue is an agricultural project for the production of avocados in an area covering 128 hectares in Lagos county, developed by Frutineves and implemented on the ground between June 2018 and August 2019.
PAN (People-Animals-Nature party) is calling for explanations on the illegal planting of avocados in the municipality of Lagos, Algarve. For this reason PAN has submitted a request for an urgent hearing by the Minister of Environment and Climate Action, CCDR Algarve, ICNF, the Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA) of GNR, IGAMAOT and the Portuguese Environment Agency.
