Washington, Jul 5 (Prensa Latina) With a rising trend in cases of syphilis and congenital syphilis in the Americas, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) on Tuesday called on nations and health professionals to step up the struggle against this preventable and curable disease that affects thousands of people each year.
In 2020, countries in the region reported 29,147 cases of congenital syphilis, and preliminary figures for 2021 indicate more than 30,000. If not detected and treated early, the disease can have devastating consequences to the fetus.
