The US Supreme Court cleared the way for Equitrans Midstream Corp. to resume construction on its controversial Mountain Valley Pipeline, lifting lower-court orders that had blocked work on the $6.6 billion project.

Opponents had sought to block completion of long-stalled project

The order was handed down while the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was in the midst of a hearing on the matter.

Full court reverses, without explanation, a lower court halt of just-resumed forward construction on last 20 miles of controversial 303-mile natural gas line over harms claimed in two opponent lawsuits.

The high court stopped short of tossing out lawsuits by environmental groups, something the pipeline had suggested as an alternative.

The Supreme Court vacated a lower court ruling that halted construction of a natural gas pipeline long championed by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV).

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday removed an obstacle to completing the long-delayed Mountain Valley Pipeline, dealing a blow to environmental groups opposed to the West Virginia-to-Virginia pipeline led by energy company Equitrans Midstream.
