Catholic bishops from Colorado ask Catholic lawmakers who voted for abortion rights to refrain from Holy Communion. The Reproductive Health Equity Act was signed into law on April 4. The legislation prohibits state and local public entities from denying an individual's right to use or refuse contraception. In 1967, Colorado became the first state to decriminalize abortion.

Manhattan: In response to the article “N.Y. to take stand as Roe end looms” (May 11): I am a semi-retired physician. Most of my years in training (1965-1975) preceded Roe v. Wade. I remember as a student in city hospital emergency rooms seeing many young women of color presenting profoundly ill and septic as a consequence of an illegal, incomplete abortion. Half of those women died.
