Quebec City-area CAQ caucus members are meeting with their leader François Legault Tuesday to express the frustration and anger felt by residents in their ridings after the government abandoned the Quebec City-Lévis highway tunnel project.

The pressure is mounting on CAQ minister Eric Caire. The Conservative leader, Eric Duhaime, wants to force him to leave his seat because his government retreated on the third link.

Conservative Party of Quebec (CPQ) leader Eric Duhaime wrote an open letter to members of the governing Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ), asking them to join his party after Francois Legaults government backtracked on the third link tunnel between Levis and Quebec City.

The petition reminds the Quebec City-area MNA of his pledge to resign from his seat in the National Assembly if the project to build a highway tunnel between Lévis and the provincial capital was not carried out. 

Citizens are mobilizing to demand the resignation of Minister Eric Caire because of the Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ) governments retreat on the third link tunnel between Levis and Quebec City. The petition highlights the fact that Caire put his seat on the line on the issue of the link between the two cities.

Transport Minister Geneviève Guilbault justified the Legault governments abandonment of the third link project for a highway under the St. Lawrence River between Quebec City and Lévis on Wednesday, leaving only a tunnel reserved for public transit. We had to make a difficult decision, but one that we believe is a responsible decision, she said. We are a pragmatic government.

Premier François Legault will evaluate the CEO and board of directors of Quebecs auto insurance board (SAAQ) in the coming weeks.
