The decisions are not final, but they give a boost of momentum to a package heading quickly toward the construction of a corn mill from Fufeng Group — a China-based agribusiness launching a subsidiary in the U.S.

Last year, during drought, the city asked residents to limit their water use. Now, a factory that uses an abundance of water hopes to build here.

During a 45-minute interview – broadcast on the Herald’s website on Wednesday, March 23 – Eric Chutorash was asked to respond to concerns “that Fufeng will not work for the long-term benefit of Grand Forks, its residents, its workers and its regional farmers, but instead would only be here to further Chinese interests.”

If this had been done earlier, opinions about the plant might not have hardened into the pro/con stances we now have.
