It’s easy to mock the “banana discourse” that’s materialized on left-wing Twitter in the last week. But there are important issues here about how production and consumption would work under a feasible and desirable form of socialism.

Polls show voters don’t approve of President Joe Biden’s job performance or economic record despite low unemployment, falling inflation, and high wages. But a look at Clinton’s 1996 campaign shows it takes time for voters to appreciate prosperity.

As of July 13, just 38.7% of Americans approved of the way the president was handling the economy, according to a polling average from RealClearPolitics.

The evidence is pretty thin.

We now have the first post-neoliberal administration in power in Washington. The Biden administration has explicitly disavowed all aspects of neoliberalism, including the assumptions about free trade and the alleged efficiency of outsourcing, the lack of support for trade unions, and the bipartisan contempt for industrial policy … Biden managed to get through Congress the most expansive technology and industrial policies since World War II.2
