Californias population continues to fall

Californias population declined again in 2021 for the second consecutive year, the result of a slowdown in births and immigration coupled with an increase in deaths and people leaving the state.

California officials blame the loss on a declining birth rate and more deaths because of the pandemic, bringing the state to where it was in 2016.
