Democrat Josh Maxwell Elected Chairman Of Chesco Commissioners - West Chester, PA - Maxwell, 40, a lifelong Chester County resident, said he is thrilled to work with the county employees to improve the lives of everyone.

The vote to name Maxwell as chairman of the commissioners was not unanimous, however, with new Commissioner Eric Roe, a Republican, voting against his appointment, nominating last year’s chairwoman, Commissioner Marian Moskowitz, instead.

Democrats kept their hold on the Chester County courthouse in Tuesday’s Municipal Election, besting their Republican opponents for all of the open seats and re-establishing that theirs is the dominant political party in the county, as numbers have shown since 2020 and elections have proven since even before then.

The four candidates honed in on housing affordability, land preservation, government spending, and public safety as the big ticket issues.

The board of commissioners constitutes the chief governing body of the county, which has a number of departments that service the public, including health, planning, open space preservation, and aging services.  The commissioners serve on the Salary Board, Prison Board, Retirement Board, and the Board of Elections in non-commissioner elections years.
