Many criticized the standards for not being age-appropriate, not coming from majority-educators and not having enough emphasis on Indigenous history.

The fate of the proposed social studies standards will be determined Monday during a Board of Education Standards meeting in Pierre. 

If the standards are approved as they’re written, it will say much about the state’s consideration of the near-thousand opponents of the standards.

The superintendent group joins a coalition of educators, school boards, education groups and the state’s nine tribes in opposition to the standards.
