Hertz is selling 20,000 EVs and using some of the proceeds to buy gas-powered vehicles. The company cited demand concerns and higher expenses linked to EV repairs for the decision.

Hertz said Thursday it will sell one-third of its electric vehicle (EV) automobiles to resize its fleet in line with slowing demand growth for emission-free transport.The rental car giant will sell 20,000 EVs in the United States, steering a portion of the funds to purchase "internal combustion engine vehicles to meet customer demand," Hertz said in a securities filing.

Citing low demand for electric vehicles, Hertz said it will sell 20,000 EVs and use the proceeds to buy traditional gas-powered cars.

Electrics marked for sale will continue to be eligible for rental during the sales process, the company added.
