The man’s body was discovered around 6 a.m. Monday by a driver heading to work, according to the Jasper County Coroner’s Office.

The single-vehicle accident happened near Exit 8 of I-95, where the interstate intersects with U.S. 278 in northern Hardeeville.

Bystanders jumped into the water in an attempt to save the man Wednesday afternoon, according to the Hardeeville Police Department.

The crash occurred around 12:25 a.m. near the highway’s intersection with Goethe Hill Road.
