An accomplished solo recitalist and concerto performer, pianist Menahem Pressler will be best remembered as the co-founder of the hugely influential Beaux Arts Trio

A six-time Grammy nominee, the acclaimed musician was the driving force behind the trio, which disbanded in 2008 after more than 50 years or recordings and concerts.

He won a Debussy competition after learning more than a dozen solo piano works by heart on a US train using a dummy keyboard

Mr. Pressler, who fled Nazi Germany as a youth, was the anchor of a group that, with various lineups, performed all over the world for 53 years.
