There is a three-way race for the empty Jaffrey School Board seat this March.
Bonnie Mitchell, Eva Torontali and Christine Pressman have all filed to vie for the seat left vacant by outgoing board member Laurel McKenzie.
Mitchell said while this is her first attempt at a School Board run, her other municipal and state governing experience would be an asset she’d bring to the table. Mitchell is a former member of the Jaffrey Select Board, Supervisor of the checklist, and a three-term member of the state House of Representatives.
“It’s an interesting time in our town’s history,” Mitchell said. “Since there’s been so much upheaval, I think it’s a good time to review everything.”

Two local nonprofit organizations received grants from A Community Thrives, a USA TODAY NETWORK program.
Bedminster-based Cancer Support Community Central, or CSCCNJ, and Milltown-based Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society have been awarded $9,000 and $6,000 grants, respectively.
The merit-based grants are designed to support general operating expenses.
Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society, a nonprofit that puts a positive light on animal rescue efforts, will use the funds to make community involvement and outreach tenets of the organization a formal program in 2021, said Assistant Executive Director Jim LaCanna.
