University of Toronto's decision to begin divesting its $4-billion endowment fund from fossil fuels "immediately" could encourage other Canadian universities to do the same.
Evelyn Austin is an artist, writer, fossil fuel divestment organizer, and settler living and working in Tkaronto. Her research-based art and writing practices explore the politics of extractivism and problems of infinite economic growth. She is a student at the University of Toronto graduating in 2021 with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, and minors in Visual Art and English. Currently, she is a coordinator for the Divest Canada Coalition, a member of Divest Ed and the College Climate Coalition’s National Reinvestment Working Group, and a project lead on the newly launched Banking on a Better Future campaign.
