Maersk, the world’s second-biggest container shipper, and Hapag-Lloyd will not use the vital trade route after missile attacks made it unsafe for vessels.

Iranian-backed Houthi militants from Yemen have attacked container ships amid Israel’s war with Hamas.

A Hapag-Lloyd ship with no links to Israel has been attacked by Houthi forces off Yemen. Fears are growing that no shipping may be free of risk in the area as Maersk and MSC vessels reverse course to avoid the region

The move by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd come as militants off the coast of Yemen step up strikes against merchant vessels.
