A brand new 149-passenger ferry will soon be delivered to the Maine State Ferry Service. The Charles Norman Shay will run between Rockland and Matinicus Island. It's scheduled to start in June.
ROCKLAND — The director of the Maine State Ferry Service said an unprecedented number of vessels out of service and staff shortages have led to cancellations of some trips.
ROCKLAND The new Maine State Ferry Service vessel being built to serve Matinicus Isle will be named the Charles Norman Shay after the heroic Maine veteran and member of the Penobscot Nation who served as a combat medic during the D-Day.
