Narges Mohammadi has for years fought for women's rights in Iran, often at great personal cost to herself.

The Iranian was imprisoned in her home country in 2021 after attending a memorial to a man who was killed during a protest over petrol prices.

Narges Mohammadi, who remains in prison, has been arrested 13 times by the Iranian regime, convicted five times, and sentenced to a total of 31 years in prison and 154 lashes.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner was chosen by a panel of experts from a list of just over 350 nominations.
