Is so important. And so i would once again and i have a lot of respect for my colleagues and i understand the reasoning that has been reticulated but the reason why i am against, by releasing money that the district is entitled to, we are not doing anything it would be a mistake for San Francisco not to make this choice now. For everyday, every month that we delay making that additional expenditure the achievement gap with some students is going to grow wider and will become more expensive to cl...

That for certain kids that you are talking about, latino kids, africanamerican kids, english language learner kids, they have a better shot at success in other School Districts in the bay area than they do in the San Francisco School District. We have to change that. This appropriation is about recognizing that while money is not the only answer, money is part of the answer. This is about closing the achievement gap which is one of the single most important challenges that we are facing as a cit...

And also investing in the future of our nonprofit leaders. Weve worked in San Francisco nonprofit workforce. Ive been over at campus Family Youth Services and presently at i h consortium. There was a time when it was rewarding. With our two annual salaries weve put our girls through schools and we utilized the Dance Mission spc a and we do everything in San Francisco and were proud to call ourselves san franciscans. And weve done that on a nonprofit salary. But will next generation folks build a...

And we can accomplish that the different funding mechanisms and i am supportive of releasing the 1. 4 Million Dollars to the School District. It is important. In terms of the 800,000 i wont be supporting that piece of it. There are other Funding Sources that achieve the same goal of having the credentialing programs available at the School District but preserve flexibility for the city to weather the storm of any of the cuts that we might see that may impact our families, kids, that we may not b...

Make a little bit of sense out of the senseless along the way. I think, you know, weve been hearing the news all weekend, and its been so difficult to even be a bystander and listen, and i think the hard thing for all of us and i know even me at home when Hurricane Sandy hit, you could do something. You could send clothes, money. You could physically help them clean up. In this case you want to do something, but youre peeking into this really tragic, sad world, and the only thing i think a lot o...

That this is similar to the last rfp in which we partnered with the school district. We wanted to simplify the application. So really it was in the spirit of trying to simplify the process so they didnt have to submit duplicate applications. And in the last slide in that it describes how the Guiding Principles we used. Once again similar to the last partnership we wanted to leverage the state funding. And this year we were able to allocate more funding for summer programs so we were able to matc...

Considers itself an advanced nation generation as i head of us on railroad. We are two generations behind, for example, on high speed. And there is zero dollars in this bill for high speed railroad. Amtrak is very well managed. In the committee we had heard what they have done and how they have done it. But they cant manage without at least some recognition from the congress that we too have a role to play in a railroad. No railroad in the world is unsubsidized. This one is subsidized very littl...

If you do not mind, i would like to take a half step back and provide a little perspective on this storm and ultimately the impact it had. If you listen to mayor bloomberg, who said that the damage was unprecedented, that maybe the worst damage the city has ever faced, and the tidal surge, which was 14 feet governor christie said that the damage to new jersey was unthinkable. We had massive flooding. If you look at the snow and the shutdown of the Stock Exchange and flooding in the subway, you g...
