Drive-in movies will return on June 3 at Utah Olympic Park

Park Record file photo The Twilight Drive-In at Utah Olympic Park is back for an encore. After last year’s successful run that featured nine weekends of films, 10,000 attendees and 3,000 cars, Dragonfli Media Technologies, Park City Film and the Utah Olympic Park announced a new season will start with Tiaka Waititi’s “Thor: Ragnarok,” rated PG-13, on Thursday, June 3. Tickets for the films are available by visiting parkcityfilm.org. (See accompanying box for June’s lineup). “We’re excited to do this again,” said Michael Jacquet, chief revenue officer of Dragonfli Media Technologies, which will provide the LED screen and other technical amenities for the screenings. “Since it all worked really well, people have been asking us to bring this back. So we’re ready to do it again.”

Park City Film is primed to restart its in-person public screenings April 16 after testing the waters with private events

Courtesy of Park City Film The wait is over. On April 16, Park City Film will restart its public, in-person weekend and special screenings at the Jim Santy Auditorium, said Executive Director Katharine Wang. “With vaccination rates going up in the county, and seeing theaters in New York and (Los Angeles) opening up, it looked like April would be a time when people would be comfortable coming back to the theaters,” Wang said. Since Feb. 19, Park City Film has presented private, in-person screenings after nearly a year of not holding events at the Jim Santy Auditorium. Wang, her board and staff used those private screenings to test protocols and monitor people’s comfort levels for coming back to the theater.

Park City Film gives cinema lovers global celebration

Photo by Dusan Martincek Park City Film will give cinema lovers a chance to travel the world without leaving their home theaters this month. The nonprofit’s board of directors decided last month to keep the Jim Santy Auditorium closed until at least February, so it will continue its virtual cinema screenings that will include films from Germany, Argentina, Japan and Brazil, according to Executive Director Katharine Wang. “We will take things as they go,” Wang said. “We’ll be keeping our eye on what the COVID case counts look like and the health of the community. We want to be respectful and responsible.”
