0 is timberview high school in arlington. about an hour and 35 minutes ago at washington liberty high school which is not far away there was also a report of an active shooter. police showed up, they cleared that scene and as soon as they cleared washington liberty high school, they got reports of an active shooter at timberview high school. the active shooter clearly at timberview that turned out to be a reality because we are now hearing that a number of people, we don t know that they are teachers or students but a number of people have been wounded. we don t know anything about don t like more than that but it gives no concept of something it was going on in arlington today because a couple of threats were turned in and one turned out to be not a threat on the other turned out to be exactly what we are seeing on the screen right now. he had these different scenarios that police are trying to work out and you can imagine that every other high school in and around the arlington area
live here in the united states, have for years they were home visiting family. trying to get back now. they got stuck. they were supposed to be out on a commercial flight in september. that s not going to happen. they cannot get through a taliban check point. they control the country, they control access to the airport. those people and our evacuation plan with some exceptions because we know the military has been doing extractions particularly of american citizens at great risk with some exceptions but in general that golden ticket is dependent on taliban cooperation. and in recent days they just have not been cooperating and it s a fundamental weakness in this plan, right? you have one exit point from one airport in the entire country and you don t have control of the space around it. that s your only emergency exit. so we re looking at these numbers now. we know that on the military side of things it s been a little over 5,000 people they have gotten out in the last 24 hours. th
this is isis-k in terms of if we are looking at this being some sort of attack on a crowd. that being their m.o. in the past days or so, or years i should say. but there are other elements around there, too. the taliban have been, for all accounts, quite cooperative when it comes to the u.s. presence there, but there s also militants protecting it as well and they are affiliated with al qaeda. it s still early days at this stage. but it does appear as though outside of the airport being hit makes me think that we could be looking at something it is extremely hard to tell. we don t know. let s just repeat for our viewers joining us now, what we do know is limited. an explosion outside hamid karzai international airport, the kabul airport, that is a live picture of the airport right now. this, of course, is the sole, frankly, exit point for those evacuation flights we have been observing over these last several days. we do not have any information
of the international community trying to get out of afghanistan, for getting into the air base. so one of the preferred targets for a group like isis-k. and then on the walls above it, on the perimeter, it is guarded on the airfield side by americans and on the british side by brits. the brits have been scaling back operations and trying to find out exactly whether or not camp barren still exists as a british base. but there were multi-national forces from all over the world in that area guarding the perimeter. not just americans. but this is clearly a major blow to them all. particularly to afghans but also to the coalition, jim. no question. and a demonstration of what has become an odd reality in recent weeks with the add vent of the u.s. withdrawal and that is that the taliban controls not only access to the airport for many americans, but also afghans who work for americans. but it also in effect controls security around this airport which is the one exit point, the one remainin
