it should be both. you know, the exit polling questions did not combine everything we needed to know. they said, what s the number one issue? health care, taxes, or immigration? but we also separately said, are you trying to send a message to the president? the overwhelming message was, they re trying to send a message to the president of the united states. i think for two years, we ve talked about holding this president accountable. and democrats in congress truly have to do that. if they don t, they might lose the most energized part of their base. and frankly, it s a calling of history. we are living in a moment where 24 hours after this election, the attorney general of the united states has been fired. the only people inside the beltway that will hold this president accountable are democrats and if they fail to do so, then they will not be able to say, we stood up to this president. they must do so. how to tell these are former members of congress? the civility in our conversa
he never met my children, and it s a pain that i carry with me, you know. you learn to live with it, but it really changes your life dramatically. so i can tell you that the last thing i wanted today when i woke up is to see the news of the shooting in california. this just cannot be our new normal. no, but it sadly is, because 12 days ago, i was talking about squirrel hill in pittsburgh. you can t even process one of these mass shootings before you have another one, in which you have to process. and that s for people like me and you, or not even like you, because i haven t had that personal experience. we re just reporting on this. this isn t the people who have been affected by it. the people who have been killed. the people who have lost family members. our exit polling from the election the other night indicates that 41% of voters say health care is the most important policy, but 10% say gun policy is the most important thing, facing them. a lot of those are young people.
no doubt. what would your advice be to your fellow democrats in terms of how they should prioritize health care, for example, or to focus on the russia probe or potential impeachment before the mueller probe is wrapped up? what would you say to them? look, i think we won the hou night. americans want democrats to lead on all of these issues. so it almost feels like everything is a priority. so i think we need to get to work on making sure that you know what i mean. what hearings will be held. interesting in our exit polling 77% of self-identified democrats support impeachment of the president. i wonder as someone deciding on this, do you think that should be the focus of the hearings, on the energy and press
