there is no exit strategy. loss no political vision. we have had differing messages from different western politicians. i mean, the goal of the u.n. resolution council is to do what? protect civilians. the reality is i suspect that the ultimate goal is to get qadhafi. this is really the i mean, we ve heard president barack obama, secretary clinton. the reality is what the western coalition is trying to do is to create faifrl conditions on the ground whereby the rebels would basically take matters into their own hands. the question is what if qadhafi fights to the end? what if a stand-off basically is established in libya? this is why there is no political vision, there is no exit strategy for the west, but also the reality is we did not leave a way out for qadhafi. i mean, if you were qadhafi, think about it. if i were qadhafi, if i have no way out, i will fight. he is fighting not only for his own survival. he is fighting for his children,
that s the twa rebeway the rebe it. david address what we just heard from senator luger. he s not a partisan. he said the president doesn t have a clear plan, doesn t have an exit strategy, he thinks this will go on a lot longer than what the president says. nick burns described the general problems very well and that was the administration really didn t want to go into this. they were dragged in not only by the british and french but by events on the ground and then they made this head snapping turn in policy and as a result it was cobbled together very quickly. and there was a lack of clarity as the mission started. i do think we got more clarity today, john, from the president about what the overall goal is and i think the distinction he s making while it is convoluted is one that makes sense and that is that the military mission is to stop gadhafi but the policy of the united states is to get him
very confident, that there will be military capabilities from some arab nations. and they are actually moving in to theater now. so that s been the commitment on the part of the political leadership in some arab countries. and i expect it to happen militarily as well. lots of time we hear many generals looking at past wars and saying, you know, what you need is a definite mission going in and an exit strategy. is this mission militarily to get rid of gadhafi? is it to put so much pressure on him and give hope to the rebels so that they overthrow him? is that when the mission is over? when is this mission over? well, this is a very specifically focused limited military mission to provide for to create the no-fly zone, to insure that we protect the civilians in libya and provide for the humanitarian support with force authorized in
