well, look, first of all, i d be the first thing i d always say is it hard to judge anything in the moment, you know, and we tend to do that and say this is what is going to happen and this is how people will interpret it. time will tell. the decision to leave afghanistan will wear well. already, most americans support it. even as most americans think the exit wasn t handled as well as it could have been and i thought the most powerful part of the president s speech today was not his sort of defiant defense of the details of the exit but his very compelling argument for why it was time to leave afghanistan and what it would have meant to stay. and i think most americans believe that. i think it is a major, major turn in american foreign policy and it s a speech by the way, don, that i heard him give 12 years ago when president obama was dealing with afghanistan and
we could have predicted this would happen and how it would happen by tweet of course. we just didn t know the actual end date and now we do. the exit wasn t just predictable because president trump sours on everyone eventually, and it wasn t predictable because the president has fired two other national security advisers, one was actually in court today s ronnicly. it was predictable because the president and john bolton have always head strikingly different views onwide range of foreign policy issues. from venezuela and iran and now the meeting at camp david, they have fundamental disagreements. bolton is a hard line more traditional conservative hawk if you will. not a secret in washington. and it was not a secret to president trump. john bolton is absolutely a hawk. if it was up to him, he would take on the whole world at one time. i have john bolton who i would definitely say is a hawk and i
cbs s hell week. two days after network ceo les moonves stepped down amid sexual assault and harassment allegations, long time 60 minutes jeff fager was fired saying he enabled an abusive culture but cbs said his exit wasn t directly related to those allegations but rather he was ousted for violated company policy. fager claims it was due to a text message he sent to a cbs reporter demanding she be fair in covering the story. said my language was harsh and despite the fact receive harsh demands all the time, cbs did not like it. aired out those texts this week. i am that reporter. since jeff fager publicly referred to our exchange.
rob porter on wednesday and now there s news that this other man who worked in the west wing, both accused of violence against their wives. what are you hearing about who knew what and when? well, there are two different situations for sure. when you talk about david sorensen, the speechwriter who stepped down on friday, that came after sorensen personally went to the white house and told them that there were these accusations against him from an ex-wife from his past, and he said he was resigning because he didn t want to be a distraction to the white house. he also put out a lengthy statement where he forcefully pushed back on the allegations and even at one point described himself as being the victim of domestic abuse. the situation was a little different with rob porter, the staff secretary, someone who was well thought of in the white house, and as a result, as the early allegations came out, members of the white house administration attempted to defend porter and his exit wasn
