LILONGWE, May 19 (Xinhua) Malawi government Wednesday destroyed 19,610 expired COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccines despite WHO s call for countries to keep the expired vaccines.
Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, led the destruction of the expired vaccines at a public event held at Kamuzu Central Hospital incinerator in the capital Lilongwe in the presence of local and international media.
The minister, who is also co-chairperson for the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, said the destruction of the vaccines is in line with the country s policy that does not allow any use of expired health commodities.
