DA urges Mangaung residents to demand service delivery through the IDP and budget process

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling on all stakeholders in Mangaung, residents and the business sector, to review the draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP), the Multi-Year Revenue and Expenditure Framework (MTREF) budget, sectoral plans, and spatial development framework that have been published. The DA urges everyone to submit their inputs before the closing date of Tuesday, 23 May 2023. Treasury begins engagements with municipalities on conditions for writing off R57bn debt owed to Eskom

The National Treasury is embarking on provincial roadshows to communicate the 14 conditions under which the debt owed to Eskom by municipalities can be written off over the coming three years. As of March 31, Eskom was owed a whopping R57-billion by municipalities and the municipal debt issue has continued to worsen despite several previous attempts to address the problem.

Salga urges negotiated conditionalities regarding municipal debt relief

The South African Local Government Association (Salga) has acknowledged with concern the debt spiral that both State-owned utility Eskom and municipalities currently face. Municipalities were owed R306-billion as at December 31, 2022, while municipalities, in turn, owe Eskom R56.3-billion.
