Apple Inc’s local manufacturing partner Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密) yesterday began weekly testing of staff coming to its headquarters in New Taipei City’s Tucheng District (土城), the first company in the city to screen employees for COVID-19.
Hon Hai, known globally as Foxconn Technology Group (富士康科技集團), said that most of its employees are already working from home, but “several hundred” of them have to be on site, such as research and development personnel.

Taipei, March 1 (CNA) Taiwan s export processing zones generated NT$400 billion (US$14.36 billion) in production value last year and have set their sights on an annual 5 percent growth in 2021 after they are renamed, according to the national Export Processing Zone Administration (EPZA).
On March 28, the export processing zones, which fall under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), will be renamed science and technology industrial park zones, in accordance with an amendment made late last year to the Statute for the Establishment and Administration of Export Processing Zone.

Taiwan’s export processing zones last year generated NT$400 billion (US$14.13 billion) in production value and are aiming for 5 percent annual growth this year after they are renamed, the Export Processing Zone Administration (EPZA) said.
On March 28, the export processing zones, which fall under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, would be renamed science and technology industrial park zones, in accordance with an amendment made late last year to the Statute for the Establishment and Administration of Export Processing Zone (加工出口區設置管理條例).
After the name change, the industrial park zones would prioritize smart upgrades, talent cultivation and business matchmaking on digital platforms, which would be funded with NT$100 million from the government, EPZA Deputy Director-General Liu Chi-chuan (劉繼傳) said.

Taipei, Dec. 29 (CNA) Water supplies for agricultural irrigation in some regions south of Taoyuan will be ceased due to scarce rainfall since the summer, the Central Emergency Operations Center unit in charge of drought announced on Tuesday.
Some 28,000 hectares of arable land, mainly rice paddies, in Hsinchu, Miaoli and Taichung will be affected, Water Resources Agency (WRA) Director-General Lai Chien-hsin (賴建信) said following a meeting called by the drought unit earlier in the day.
Local farmers will be compensated and subsidized for any stoppage measures imposed, he noted.
