GM is delaying the start of electric truck production at its Orion factory in Detroit, in the latest blow to the automaker’s ambitious EV plans.

GM will delay electric pickup truck production at a factory near Detroit due to slowing U.S. demand for electric vehicles, better manage its capital investments, and to make some engineering changes.

The auto maker's stock was already beaten down as a result of the United Auto Workers strike.

The company said in a statement Tuesday that the factory in Orion Township, Michigan, will instead start making electric Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups in late 2025.

"Evolving EV demand" means the Orion, Michigan GM plant won't be putting out EV trucks until 2025.
