Denver voters are electing a new mayor for the first time in more than a decade but early turnout has been low with 17 candidates on the ballot for spring election.
Thousands of ballots remain to be counted in Denver's 2023 municipal election, but two candidates Mike Johnston and Kelly Brough have taken an early lead in the race for mayor.
That low turnout is leading to tight races between candidates. Already, the city is poised for a mayoral runoff in June, but there might also be a runoff election for the City Council's 9th and 10th districts too, in which no candidate holds a clear majority.
