Jubilation as King gets vaccine jab
MORIJA-KING Letsie III, senior government officials and health workers received the first jabs of the AstraZeneca vaccine at Scott Hospital yesterday.
The King was vaccinated together with Queen ’Masenate and Princess Senate at Scott Hospital in Morija, where he was born 57 years ago.
The decision to vaccinate the king first is meant to send a message that the vaccine is safe. The idea is to show that His Majesty is leading the way.
This is because the vaccination is happening at a time when there has been a massive pushback from anti-vaxxers who have been pushing a narrative that vaccines are not safe.

PRIME Minister Moeketsi Majoro has fired Defence and National Security Minister Lekhetho Mosito barely two weeks after appointing him to the post.
Although Dr Majoro did not give reasons for the move, Mr Mosito this week bared his soul to the
Lesotho Times. He said the writing had been on the wall for him since last Tuesday when the premier told him that he was under immense pressure from ruling All Basotho Convention (ABC) apparatchiks to fire him.
Mr Mosito, the ABC’s legislator for the Likhetlane constituency, said Dr Majoro had even apologised for his imminent ouster. He said the premier told him that he had no choice but sacrifice him to save his own position after senior ABC officials had threatened to oust him as prime minister if he did not get rid of Mr Mosito.

QUEEN Mamohato Memorial Hospital (QMMH) authorities have ordered striking nurses to attend disciplinary hearings starting Tuesday.
This as the strike enters its third week with no agreement in sight despite a series of talks involving all stakeholders, namely the nurses, QMMH management and newly appointed Health Minister Semano Sekatle last week.
QMMH nurses and nursing assistants went on strike on 1 February 2021 to press the government to award them salary increments to match their counterparts in other government and private institutions.
QMMH nurses say they have not been awarded any increments since 2012 when the government and the Christian Health Association of Lesotho (CHAL) increased the salaries of nurses at other institutions.
