Henrico leaders break ground on two new hotels and restaurants to compliment recently-opened Henrico Sports and Events Center in Glen Allen.

The 43-mile paved trail with amenities will stretch from Ashland to Petersburg, connecting cyclists and walkers from seven localities in Central Virginia to exercise, nature, and much more.

The Hanover groundbreaking followed a similar event late last year to kick off construction of the Henrico County portion of the trail, which will run 43 miles from Ashland to Petersburg.

Four of the five projects will impact Henricos Fairfield District. One of those projects is designed as a bridge over I-95 for walking and biking only.

City Council will review the document in depth over the next several weeks in a series of workshops, leading up to an initial public hearing April 8.

The plan outlines everything the trail could offer once fully complete — public artwork, urban and rural trail areas, recreation and car-less transportation.
