Farooq Qaiser, the man behind the legendary Uncle Sargam, has passed away in Islamabad on Friday, confirmed his grandson.
Farooq started working with the Pakistan Television (PTV) in 1976. Uncle Sargam, created and voiced by him, appeared on the national televisionâs show Kaliyan in 1976.
His death was also confirmed by the PTV.
The award-winning puppeteer was one of the most popular personalities among kids in 1980s, 90s and early 2000s.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Pakistani TV icon Farooq Qaiser popularly known as Uncle Sargam.
Qaiser, who is regarded as one of the pioneers of puppetry and art in Pakistan, died of cardiac arrest in Islamabad at the age of 76 today.
PNCA puts off events over third corona wave

Islamabad : The Pakistan National Council of the Arts has announced that the third wave of coronavirus has forced it into postponing many of its programmes and shifting the rest to outdoor venues.
According to the PNCA, the events will have limited audience and will be
held with the strict enforcement of the standard operating procedures notified by the government to prevent the spread of coronavirus. All events will be streamed live on the PNCA Facebook Page, so you can enjoy them while sitting at home, it said.
The revised events include concert of Ustad Raza Ali Khan (Classical) – 6 pm at PNCA courtyard, Youth Drama Festival on March 15-19 at 10 am-11:30 am and 4pm-5:30 pm, Bethak with puppeteer Farooq Qaiser on March 17 at 11 am and Nowruz celebrations on March 20 at 6:30 p.m. The online programmes will continue.

Islamabad: Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) would organise ‘Bethak’ with legend on puppetry arts Syed Farooq Qaiser on March 17. Students of various schools and arts lovers would attend the formal discussion on Puppetry as a medium of communication.
Farooq Qaiser is well known for his fictional puppet ‘Uncle Sargam’ introduced in 1976 in children’s television show ‘Kaliyan’.
