All Saints organ
Every Monday evening until the end of August, at 7.30pm, there will be an organ concert at All Saints Church, Hastings Old Town.
Marion Lovell, who ran the series for many years and has been associated with it right from the start, was thrilled to see an audience of well over 100 at the first concert in the new series – the 32nd season of concerts.
“It would have been 33 but for lockdown. The series began in 1989 and it was started by the organist of All Saints, Nigel Spooner. He was an organ enthusiast and he thought maybe a series of concerts would work. When it began, it was just two concerts, but it has developed from there. He left after three years and we have developed it to include standard and innovative organ repertoire because there was just nothing like it in Hastings at all. We started with just the two concerts, generally speaking, but there are now eight, except this year there are nine.”

Sitarist and composer Jasdeep Singh Degun
Opening in September, the Orchestra of Opera North’s adventurous programme at Huddersfield Town Hall ranges from a belated birthday celebration for Beethoven, to the drama and dissonance of the twentieth century, to a world premiere and new commissions from emerging composers.
Intimate chamber concerts with small ensembles from the orchestra return to Dewsbury Town Hall on Wednesday lunchtimes, concluding with a warm farewell to leader David Greed.
Under new guest curator David Pipe, Monday lunchtime concerts on Huddersfield Town Hall’s famous Father Willis organ include guest debuts, works by contemporary composers alongside more traditional repertoire, and the return of former borough organist Dr Gordon Stewart.

In the past three months more than 25,000 people have filed through the spectacular nave of Salisbury Cathedral to be vaccinated against Covid to the sounds of Brahms, Elgar, Handel and others. Some may have offered a passing prayer of thanks to God and the NHS.
On Sunday there will be no needles, no vials and no medics. The vaccination programme has been suspended for Christian Holy Week and Easter weekend and the cathedral has reverted to its normal business of worship.
Even so, only 60 people are permitted to be present for Sunday’s dawn paschal vigil, and 160 for morning prayer at 8.30am. All other Easter Sunday services will be online. But worshippers are welcoming even limited church services this weekend after spending last Easter confined to home as clergy struggled to master livestreaming.
