Atiku Abubakar is a Nigerian politician and businessman who served as Vice President of Nigeria under Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007. He ran for Governor of Adamawa State in 1990, 1997, and 1998, and was elected each time before becoming Olusegun Obasanjo's running mate in the 1999 presidential election and being re-elected in 2003.
