Former pub site in Calshot won't be used for homes

PLANS to build housing on the former site of a Hampshire pub have been rejected - 20 years after it was demolished following a fire. A government-appointed planning inspector has dismissed an appeal relating to land that used to be occupied by the Flying Boat Inn at Calshot Road, Calshot. It is the latest blow to F B Estates, which has spent years trying to gain permission to build seven homes on the site. Its first application was refused by the New Forest National Park Authority (NPA) in 2019 after members heard that new housing in Forest villages was normally allowed only in Ashurst, Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst and Sway.

New town clerk picked out for Royal Wootton Bassett

A NEW town clerk has been announced for Royal Wootton Bassett. It comes as Johnathan Bourne retired after 32 years but now Stephen Nash will be taking the reins in February. He's been the clerk at Fawley Parish Council, Ringwood Town Council and Swanley Town Council. Having previously served in the army with posting in Wiltshire he's happy to be coming back. Councillor Marion Sweet said: "We selected Stephen from a significant number of 12 very strong candidates, but none matched the drive and vision for Royal Wootton Bassett offered by Stephen Nash." Mayor Nic Hughes said: "We had a good number of very strong candidates apply for this position and Stephen's experience made him stand out. We are pleased he has accepted the position and look forward to working with him."
