not only at this network, at nbc, abc, cbs, in boston, in austin, all talking about president kerry. that was two hours before the polls closed. bob shrum. everybody knew that john kerry had won the race. everybody. let me repeat. everybody. two hours before. and then we all remembered what happened in new hampshire when everybody was dancing on hillary clinton s grave. oh, my god. the day of the new hampshire primary. let s look at primary crowds. mika and i, we re at a nashua gym and saw hillary up there speaking. they were, like, bringing people in from out of state. everybody came in from massachusetts. and i said, you know, she deserves a better ending than this. and yet, you never know until americans go into the voting booth and vote. well, i recall in new hampshire in february of 2008 being in the lobby of the holiday inn with you and telling you that i had just bumped into
promising unemployment numbers and put the damper on those conspiracy theorists out there saying these chicago guys, meaning obama s campaign people, tinkered with the numbers. here is what today s numbers show. weekly jobs claims are at 339,000, that s down 30,000, the lowest number since february of 2008. there s been more twittering on twitter about whether these numbers are kosher or not. there s actually still a conspiracy theory afoot that they were manipulated. these numbers are both good and legitimate, i can tell you that. joining me washington post pulitzer prize winning columnist, msnbc political analyst eugene robinson and alex wagner. i want to start with you, alex. i have done some work on this. all those years we have been watching bls come out with the numbers and they haven impenetrable. richard nixon was dieing to get control of that agency and he couldn t do it. larry summers said republicans and democrats on both sides of the aisles have been dying for years to ge
talk to almost any republican analyst and they say ohio is critical to their success, and they wouldn t be putting their candidate there four out of the next five days in this home stretch if they didn t think they had a chance. do you think the republicans smell blood in ohio, congresswoman? well, no republican has actually won the presidency in modern history without ohio, so it s natural that they would be here, but more importantly, they re here because barack obama is winning ohio and ohio intends to send him back to the white house. most importantly, here in cleveland and across northern ohio, because he saved the auto industry. and one of eight jobs in ohio relates to that critical industry, which by the way, has had the highest level of sales since february of 2008 last month. so let me ask you about that, because i think that is an important point and it s something the president has talked about repeatedly in his list of accomplishments. but let s take your neighboring
last week. the airline is inspecting its planes for similar problems. two scenes of economic recovery this morning including a streak in new car sales. the car of sales and trucks, it rose 13% in the last month compared to a year ago. the last time sales figures were this good february of 2008. small efficient cars are fueling the sales trend. and home prices are up 4.5% nationwide in august compared to a year ago. it s the biggest jump in more than six years. analysts say the steady increase in prices over the summer months shows that the real estate market is rebounding. it doesn t make me feel very good because i sold my house a year ago. we took a huge loss. so maybe if we would have rented a year. patience, patience. yeah, right. here s an extraordinary close encounter that you just have to see to believe. that right there is a 25-foot whale shark getting up close and
influence the market or appear to have any undue influence on it. when that hour passed the president obama was boarding marine one for three fundraisers, and onto this evening for three more. he is expected to make comments on the jobs numbers with regard to vets. they are expected to gag he will frogle aboard marine one. they say problems in the job market were long in the making and will not be solved over not. the economy lost jobs for 25 straight months beginning in february of 2008 and 8 million jobs were lost as a result of the great recession. we are still fighting back from the greatest loss since the great depression.
