Bangladesh’s rice production may decline slightly in marketing year (MY) 2023-24 as a result of partial damage to Aman rice crop, now being harvested in Southern coastal districts, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said last week.

With farmers preparing to plant maize for the winter, seed sellers and businesses expect an increase in acreage because of higher prices of the grain and Bangladesh’s import dependence in covering the shortage of the grain used by feed mills.

Land use for rice cultivation in Bangladesh is likely to decline in marketing year (MY) 2023-24, which began on May, forecasted the US Department of Agriculture at the end of last week. 

Reuters writer Roberto Samora reported late last week that, "Brazil's agriculture ministry said on Friday that 90 local firms have been cleared to export corn to China in the first two months of the year, taking the total to 446."

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has revised upward its forecast regarding Bangladesh’s rice production in the marketing year (MY) 2022-23 beginning from last May.

The USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) indicated in a report this week, "China: Grain and Feed Update," that, "Post forecasts MY2022/23 corn imports at 18 MMT, the same as USDA's official estimate."
