We know this is a long time coming. And, in fact, i keep going back every time we come to any of our Public Housing locations i continue to go back to when i grew up in the Western Addition in plaza east, and there were 300 units there that were torn down and only 200 built. And all over the city, we brought forth a program, through the federal government, called hope fix. You remember hope fix ran out of money, ran out of resources. And the people who were promised in places like sunnydale and all over the city, there was no sup
It hit the San Mateo County coast, something that took them by surprise. Christie smith, it wasnt a big quake, but was it enough to rattle some nerves . We spoke with people here in pacifica and some of them said it sounded like a car hitting the building and some of them went out and figured out it was what they thought, an earthquake. I thought first of all, you know, someone hit my store. At this liquor store in pacifica, the store made a quick exit after the shaking. I was just scared and i see other people went out, you know, and theyre asking each other whats going on. Bottles waddled, but nothing broke. A magnitude 3. 5 earthquake hit west of colma at 8 41 this morning. Ity shakithe shaking was felt iy pa parts of the bay area. It was near the san andre as. He says they usually expect this type of activity further inland. . It was a little unusual for us. Right now the strike seems to ontrol from our perspective. Were not aware of any significant c sll number of strikers. At the last count we see less than 150. Reporter now workers began hitting the picket lines after 6 00 at a dozen sites around the santa clara county. Were told they are picketing in shifts. These folks were picketing in front of the department of family and Children Services where they would question working. The 12,000 member union voted to authorize a strike working without a contract since june and they said they offered the workers a of 25 million package of pay raises and benefits over five years but the union is asking for more something he said may not be sustainable in a slowing economy but the workers say negotiations are stalled over staffing and services and working conditions. Pay is definitely on the table. But the major issues that were fighting for here is based on the unfair labor practice strike is working conditions and services for thecommunity. Rep

The Affordable Housing act will allow me to give my child the opportunity to grow up in a community where he is safe, and with habitable, loving conditions. It is a pleasure to know that fractured communities like these ones have been disenfranchised, and looked at as a waste of space, are now, in the near future, going to be a place we can all call home. Being here and being able to speak today is an honor and a pleasure, and with the new development and promise from the Mayors Office, as well as the Housing Office of development and mercy housing, i know that this project will be a great im sorry [applause] it will be great for those who have been disenfranchised, and the children that live here.
