Online sex crimes against children have surged in the pandemic. Home Office data has revealed that there were 17,699 online child sex offences recorded by police in England and Wales between April and September last year, the months after the first lockdown.
That represents a 17 per cent increase from 15,183 during the same period in 2019.
While the most recent offences pass through the criminal justice system, Greater Manchester s courts are already busy with offences pre-dating lockdown.
